ROOTING IN NEW SOIL
Jaya Kava is a small biz that started in 2019 by way of speakeasy tea parties in our South Philly backyard. Marketed via coffee shop flyers, IG ads and yoga class mentions — these sober garden parties were adorable manifestations of bliss and friendship.
After launching our LLC during a big “Communitea” party at the One Art Community Center on 10.10.2020, partnering with a commercial kitchen (thank you Flannel!), and building a shopify system with weekly subscription capabilities… Jaya’s trajectory sharply pivoted when I met Gaby Vazquez in January 2021. Soon, we were pouring our soul into a shared vision of a vegan, sober cafe and juice bar, right off of South St! The Lightbox Cafe occupied 100% of my life for 2+ years, and was a truly HUGE LIFE LESSON! Support the 2021 Dream: The Lightbox Cafe at 704 S 4th St has food, drinks + vibes that are AWESOME!
While vending in Summer 2022, I met Richie Parrella and we were instantly drawn together in love and commitment to a shared mission of revolutionary ideas and conscious community creations. After pushing some boundaries that winter; I realized that I was never going to be able to execute on my bigger dreams within the confines of the 450 square foot Lightbox Cafe.
I made the hard choice to re-focus on Jaya and step away from day-to-day operations at the Lightbox Cafe. In early 2023 Richie and I launched the #RiseOfJaya and I reclaimed my intellectual property. We spent the summer creating and operating a mobile elixir bar at sober dance parties, music festivals and wellness fairs across PA and NJ. In 2023 we became the official food and drink vendor of Dance Medicine Philly, Love Portal Events + Elevate rooftop experiences at Mishana Yoga. We curated and held safe, supportive, and nurturing sober lounge spaces at festivals like Harmonic Earth, Beardfest, and Rainbow Moon Fest!
In Fall 2023, Richie and I created the #WonderSessions Open Mics and launched them at Wonderland: a very rad Fishtown art and sculpture garden operated by our friend and #HarmReduction ally Michelle <3 We also got to share our sober pop-up with Ecstatic Paint Party attendees at The Paintgrounds in NJ — where you get to paint, dance, drink, splatter and scream!
In 2024 we have ROOTED into our new neighborhood in Germantown, just NW of center city! Every Thursday from 6pm to Midnight Richie & I hold beautiful space via the #WonderSessions Open Mics, as well as offer a full menu of kava, kratom, ceremonial cacao, hot chai, herbal brews and an ever-changing offering of one sweet and one savory organic, vegan foods to nourish your soul and keep the good vibes flowing!
